“The bigger the events, the smaller the memories that people bring with them. I will not forget this night and I hope that many of the people here will not forget it. This was a memorable evening for me and I will remember many of the faces I saw and this beautiful place. We can not reason in terms of dimensions, but we must reason in terms of spirit. I do not need a prize, I need to get in touch with people, and here I was in touch with people ” – Wim Wenders

PETTIROSSO PRIZE

Gino Strada
Pettirosso prize
Every year the Pettirosso prize joins the other prizes that our festival delivers to the world of art. A prize to the person, dedicated to those who in his life have pursued his dream to the point of reaching it and leaving an important sign in our society. People of a value equal to that of the celebrated international artists who tread our festival.
Gino Strada was born in Sesto San Giovanni in 1948.
He started out as an emergency surgeon. After working in Italy, he decided in 1988 to devote his experience in emergency surgery to assist and cure war casualties. From 1989 to 1994 he worked with Geneva’s international Red Cross.
In the spring of 1994, together with a group of coworkers and friends, he founded Emergency, in Milan. This organization has since then offered free care to more than 9 million victims of wars, spanning from antipersonnel mines to poverty.
Gino Strada was awarded several prizes and credits, among which the Right Livelihood Award, the so-called alternative Nobel, in 2015, and the Sunhak Peace Prize in 2017
